Cox Orange Apple (Malus domestica 'Cox Orange Pippin')
An iconic English variety, the Cox Orange is considered one of the best table apples for its exceptional taste.
🍎 Fruit description
A medium to small apple, round and slightly flattened. The skin is thin, smooth, yellow-orange with reddish-orange streaks on the side exposed to the sun. The flesh is creamy-white, fine-textured, crisp, very juicy, and fragrant. It has a remarkably balanced sweet-tart flavor with complex aromas reminiscent of hazelnut.
🥧 Usage
An excellent eating apple, perfect for fresh juice. Its delicate flavor also makes it well-suited to tarts, compotes, and fruit salads.
📅 Harvest
September to October. Harvesting takes place when the fruit detaches easily from the tree.
🏺 Conservation
It keeps well for 2 to 3 months in a cool, well-ventilated cellar. Best enjoyed from October to December to fully appreciate its flavor.
🐝 Pollination
Self-sterile variety requiring a pollinator.
Good pollinators: Reine des Reinettes, Pate de Loup, Elstar.
Flowering occurs mid-season.

📖 History
Developed around 1825 by Richard Cox in Colnbrook, Buckinghamshire, England. Originating from a Ribston Pippin seedling. Introduced to France around 1850, it has become a benchmark for lovers of quality apples.
