Van Cherry Tree – Dark red, crunchy, and very productive cherry, ideal as a pollinator.
Fruit Description: Medium to large, round, bigarreau cherry. Dark red, shiny skin. Red flesh, very firm and crunchy, sweet with a slight acidity. Excellent post-harvest shelf life.
Use: Excellent dessert cherry. Ideal for fresh consumption, desserts, and processing. Its firmness makes it perfect for cherries in syrup and jams.
Harvest: June, mid-season variety. Regular and abundant productivity.
Storage: Very good post-harvest shelf life due to its firm flesh. Stores for 7 to 10 days in the refrigerator.
Pollination: Excellent universal pollinator for most bigarreau cherry trees. Pair with Burlat, Napoleon, or Summit.
Disease Resistance: Very good general resistance. Vigorous and robust tree, low maintenance.
History: Canadian variety selected at the Summerland Station (British Columbia) in the 1940s. Highly appreciated in Europe for its versatility and productivity.
