The Nashi Chojuro is a robust and hardy variety that is easy to cultivate. It can withstand difficult conditions and is not very susceptible to diseases. This fruit tree needs well-drained and nutrient-rich soil to produce delicious fruits.
Fruit description: Medium to large Asian pear with golden-bronze skin and white, juicy, and crisp flesh. Sweet flavor with light notes of honey.
Use: Best eaten fresh. Excellent for desserts, fruit salads, and culinary preparations.
Harvest: September to October depending on the variety. The fruits easily detach from the tree when ripe.
Storage: 2 to 3 weeks in the refrigerator. Can be stored longer in cold storage.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile variety. Cross-pollination with other Nashi improves fruit production.
Disease resistance: Good general resistance. Not very susceptible to common European pear diseases.
Synonyms: Japanese Pear, Asian Pear, Shinseiki (possible confusion with another variety).
History: Originating in Japan, the Nashi Chojuro is an ancient variety highly valued for its productivity and taste quality. Cultivated for centuries in East Asia, it gradually established itself in Western Europe.
The fruits are crisper pears (like apples) and have sometimes exotic aromas in addition to their pear aromas.
