The Ennis hazelnut produces large, round hazelnuts with a thick shell and a large, sweet kernel.

This hardy tree adapts to most well-drained, moist soils and prefers a sunny to partially shaded exposure.

It requires little maintenance once established, mainly needing annual or bi-annual pruning in early spring to promote new wood production and thus encourage fruiting for the following year.

Cross-pollination significantly improves production: absolutely associate it with one or more compatible hazelnut trees planted within 10 meters. For example: Negret, Gunslebert, and Longue d'Espagne.

Since flowering is very early, around mid-February in mild regions like Brittany, it is necessary to promote pollen transmission through plant proximity and wind transport. And encourage wild pollinators such as bumblebees and mason bees.

Cold-resistant, it thrives in temperate regions and produces fruit from the third year. Hazelnuts, harvested in autumn, offer excellent storage potential and are suitable for both fresh consumption and artisanal processing.
