The Gunslebert hazelnut is a variety producing high-quality round hazelnuts, prized for their rich flavor and consistent yield.
Pollinators: Segorbe, Webb's Prize Cob
This hardy tree adapts to most well-drained, moist soils and prefers a sunny to semi-shady exposure.
It requires little maintenance once established, primarily needing annual or biennial pruning in early spring to encourage new wood production and thus promote fruiting the following year.
Cross-pollination significantly improves production: it is absolutely essential to pair it with one or more other compatible hazelnut trees, planted within 10 meters.
As flowering is very early, around mid-February in mild regions like Brittany, it is necessary to promote pollen transfer through the proximity of plants and wind transport. And encourage wild pollinators such as bumblebees and mason bees.
Cold-resistant, it thrives in temperate regions and produces its fruit from the third year. Hazelnuts, harvested in autumn, offer excellent storage potential and are suitable for both fresh consumption and artisanal processing.
