Pear – William's (Bon Chrétien)

Fruit description: Medium to large pear with golden yellow skin and red blush when ripe. White flesh, juicy and melting, offering a sweet and characteristic fragrant flavor. Fine and delicate texture, ideal for fresh consumption.

Use: An excellent dessert variety. Excellent for direct consumption, desserts, and compotes. A fruit much appreciated by connoisseurs of fine pears.

Harvest: Late August to September. Pick slightly before full maturity to prevent fruit drop.

Storage: Stores for 2 to 3 weeks in a cold room. At room temperature, allow to ripen gradually to develop its full flavor.

Pollination: Self-sterile variety. Requires cross-pollination with other pear or nashi trees for optimal fruiting. Is a very good pollinator for other pear and nashi trees.

Disease resistance: Good general resistance. Susceptible to scab in humid conditions. Monitor preventive treatments in oceanic climates.

Synonyms: Bon Chrétien, Williams, Bartlett (depending on the region).

History: Originally from England (discovered in 1770), this variety has become one of the most famous dessert pears in the world. Its name "Bon Chrétien" dates back to the Middle Ages. Iconic in French orchards, it embodies Norman and Breton fruit excellence.

Sold as a one-year-old whip, bare-root.
