An old and hardy Breton variety, the Reinette d'Armorique is a local apple highly prized for its exceptional flavor and good keeping qualities. A true emblem of Brittany's fruit heritage!
🍎 Fruit description
A medium-sized apple, flattened and regular in shape. The skin is rough, thick, and yellowish-brown to reddish-brown with lighter areas and sometimes russet mottling. It has the characteristic surface of Reinette apples. The flesh is yellowish-white, firm, crisp, very juicy, and fragrant. It has a well-balanced sweet-tart flavor with rich and complex aromas reminiscent of hazelnut and dried fruit.
🥧 Usage
An excellent eating apple, perfect for fresh juice thanks to its very juicy and fragrant flesh. Ideal for quality cider where it contributes structure, body, and complex aromas. Also suitable for tarts and compotes where it retains its texture well. A versatile fruit highly prized by connoisseurs.
📅 Harvest
October. Harvesting takes place when the fruit easily detaches from the tree. The harvest is generally regular and abundant.
🏺 Conservation
Excellent storage life of 4 to 6 months in a cool, well-ventilated cellar. Best enjoyed from November to April. The apple improves with age and fully develops its complex aromas.
🐝 Pollination
Self-sterile variety requiring a pollinator. Good pollinators: Reine des Reinettes, Belle de Boskoop, Jacques Lebel, Reinette Clochard. Mid-season flowering. Good productivity.
🛡️ Disease resistance
Good overall disease resistance. Fair resistance to scab. A very hardy and vigorous variety, perfectly suited to the cool, damp climate of Brittany (Armorica). Tolerates poor soils and windy locations well.
