Fil Jaune Apple Tree (Malus domestica 'Fil Jaune')
An old and hardy French variety, the Fil Jaune is an autumn apple much appreciated for its sweet flavour and beautiful golden colour. A local variety with an evocative name!
🍎 Fruit Description
Medium-sized apple, with a rounded, slightly elongated shape. The skin is smooth, thin, bright golden yellow, streaked with lighter lines like yellow threads, hence its name. The flesh is white, fine, crisp, very juicy and fragrant. Sweet and sugary flavour with a light, fresh acidity.
🥧 Uses
Excellent eating apple, ideal for fresh juices. Perfect for sweet cider where it brings sweetness and aromas. Also suitable for pies and compotes.
📅 Harvest
September to October. Harvest is generally regular and abundant.
🏺 Storage
Good storage for 2 to 3 months in a cool, ventilated cellar. Best consumed from October to December.
🐝 Pollination
Self-sterile variety requiring a pollinator. Good pollinators: Reine des Reinettes, Belle de Boskoop, Reinette Clocharde. Mid-season flowering. Good productivity.
🛡️ Disease Resistance
Good general disease resistance. A hardy and vigorous variety, well adapted to the cool and humid climates of western France.
📖 History
An old French variety traditionally grown in Brittany and Normandy. Its name comes from the characteristic yellow streaks that run through its golden skin.

Vigorous tree with an spreading habit. Fairly rapid fruit set. Regular and generous production. Adapts to all types of well-drained soils.
